How to extend your visa for Thailand?

This is a situation that can happen to everyone: for one reason or another, we sometimes travel to a country and exceed the regulatory duration provided for by the visa. How to extend your visa for Thailand?

The extension of the tourist visa for Thailand generally gives you 30 additional days. Such a procedure must be applied in 3 cases. First of all, the extension concerns people who left for Thailand with a 60-day visa.

Then, it can also benefit travelers who left with a visa of 6 months or a multiple entry visa. The procedure is applicable for holders of a residence permit expired or about to expire.

What documents are required?

For Thailand visa extension, you will need the following documents:

  • The TM7 form which must, in particular, include the full address of the hotel or place where you live
  • A copy of the passport identification page
  • A copy of the entry stamp or a copy of the visa
  • An identity photo
  • A copy of the Thailand Exit Card or TM6 form for the Temporary Exemption for Foreigners Arriving by Air (ETEA)
  • A sum of 1900 THB (approximately 51 €) for the costs of visa extension

Steps to follow for visa extension

After preparing the documents required for the procedure in question, you must go to the immigration office closest to your place of residence in Thailand. You must now complete the TM7 form that we talked about. You can get it via this link or on site in the immigration office. You must include your personal information, as well as the number of days you wish to obtain.

Afterwards, you must hand over your passport and documents to the agent at the immigration office with the requested amount. You will then be called by your name and you will obtain the precious stamp for the visa extension.

What are the penalties for overstaying?

It should be remembered that Penalties are applied for overstaying visa deadlines. Exceeding 90 days (at least) results in a penalty that can weigh heavily on your wallet. Moreover, this increases with the number of days of excess. It is equivalent to 500 THB, is around 14 €.

Worse still: in certain cases, you may be banned from entering Thai territory for a specific period of time. For example, for an excess of 91 days to 1 year, the ban is 1 year if you report yourself to the competent authorities.

Up to 10 years ban
