Going on vacation on a whim, landing a job contract with a large company, etc.: so many reasons can force you to travel urgently to a given destination. For Thailand, it's a bit complicated when it comes to emergency travel.

Can you get an emergency visa for Thailand?

Are you forced to go to Thailand immediately? I have to tell you right away: it is impossible to obtain a visa urgently. Moreover, the Thai embassy recommends that travelers apply for a visa 3 months before departure date. At worst, it is even possible to do so one month before D-Day. What is certain, therefore, is that it is impossible to obtain a visa on the day of your application for example, whatever the reason.

When should you submit your visa application?

As we have just mentioned, it is recommended to make your request, at the latest, one month before the date of your arrival in the country. This is for administrative reasons. Indeed, the Thai authorities wish to reduce consular overload.

It is advisable, on the other hand, avoid filing your application on weekends and public holidays. The sooner you start, the better it will be for you. Additionally, technically speaking, the Thai embassy only accepts visa applications within 3 months prior to your arrival in the kingdom.

It would therefore be best to submit your visa application in advance, respecting the legal deadlines. Before proceeding with this, you need to prepare a package of documents:

  • A photo of you with your passport next to your face

  • A bank statement that shows a credit balance of 1,500 euros or more
  • Proof of address
  • A copy of your passport and stamps relating to your previous trips to Thailand

What visa do you need to go to Thailand?

As you probably know, to travel to Thailand, there are several types of visa. To make the right choice, you must take into account the purpose of your trip. Are you going there to work or to sightsee? On the other hand, age is a factor that comes into play.

Indeed, there are specific visas which concern those over 50. They are long-term: 5 years renewable. You should also know that you can benefit from a single entry or a multiple entry.

The duration of the stay; duration of stay

It is also on this factor that the type of your visa will depend. For a stay of more than 60 days, there is O, B and ED visas (non-immigrant). They are intended for people who want to work, visit family or take part in humanitarian missions.

If your stay is to last less than 60 days, a simple short-stay visa should then suffice. Don't forget to respect the legal duration which has been granted to you, at the risk of having sanctions imposed on you !
