Tourist tax to travel to Thailand: a measure studied at length
The tourist tax project was initially supposed to come into force in January 2022. Subsequently, it was delayed to April of the same year and then to January 2023. However, and since the collection of this tax required new arrangements at airports, it was necessary to postpone its official implementation. Thus, it will come into force from June 2023. Its amount will be 300 baht (8 €).
Who is concerned ?
All travelers wishing to stay in Thailand must pay this new tax. Whether it is a tourist visa or a business visa, be prepared to pay the amount quoted above. However, we can mention a few exceptions:
- Traveler in possession of a work permit
- Visitor who presents a border pass
- Thai passport holder
- Citizen resident in the country
The purpose of this new tax
According to the declarations of the authorities concerned, the sums obtained will be allocated to anchor the concept of sustainable tourism. Indeed, it is about the development of more tourist destinations to refresh this sector in the long term. This insurance provides coverage up to until 13.506 € which is equivalent to 500,000 baht.

Tourism in Thailand: a renaissance expected for 2023
