Is the Thailand Pass still required?

During the health crisis caused by the spread of COVID-19, a good number of countries, particularly the most touristy ones, have taken special measures to deal with the pandemic. This is the case of Thailand. At the time, the Kingdom implemented the Thailand Pass. What is it about ? Is it still in force?

What is the Thailand Pass?

To simplify entry procedures into its territory, this country has implemented the Thailand Pass, in addition to conventional visas. The system is aimed at travelers using air, sea or land routes. It was put in place at the start of the COVID-19 crisis.

Concretely, it is official authorization provided by the Kingdom's immigration services. It could also be granted by the different embassies at one time, before the generalization at the level of the Thai MFA. Today, the impact of SARS-CoV-2 has been drastically reduced, especially since vaccines have been developed. Also, the Thailand Pass is no longer compulsory, and this since summer 2022.

Who were eligible for the Thailand Pass?

Since the Thailand Pass is no longer mandatory, it is no longer possible to submit an application. The pass was aimed at any traveler wishing to enter the country, whether or not they were vaccinated against COVID-19, and was presented as an additional mandatory health procedure, separate from the visa.

What were the specific provisions relating to the Thailand Pass?

Since June 1, 2022, Thais have been exempt from presenting the pass. Additionally, no quarantine is required. This last provision concerns all travelers, and not just the locals.

How to get your Thailand Pass?

As we have just indicated, it is no longer compulsory for travel and the Thai government has deactivated its dedicated website: https://tp.consular.go.th/

For information purposes, the request had to be carried out 3 days before your departure date. The Thailand Pass was only valid for one entry and within the limits of the length of stay.

What documents were required to apply for the Thailand Pass?

When making your request, you were asked for certain documents. They had to be translated into French, English or German. For example, you had to attach a negative RT-PCR test. Special insurance was also required. It had to provide a minimum coverage of 10,000 US dollars.

On the other hand, it was obligatory to install MorChana on your smartphone. It is a mobile application made compulsory by the Thai authorities at the time of the launch of the Thailand Pass. It allowed you to stay informed of the latest developments concerning the health measures in force, knowing that the latter have been strongly lightened since 2022.
