Transit in Thailand: visa required?

Whether it is a tourist trip, a professional mission or for studies, stays in Thailand require obtaining an e-visa. The maximum length of stay can vary from 30 days to 5 years, renewable for OX e-Visa holders.

But what about in the case of a transit? In case you need to change flights in Thailand, are there any specific measures you should know? If you will soon be in this situation, we answer all your questions on this subject.

Transit through Thailand: when to apply for a visa?

If your final destination requires transit through Thailand, and you pass less than 12 hours in one of two main airports from the capital, you are not required to apply for a transit visa. However, this condition remains valid only if you have booked with a asian airline.

This measure does not concern travelers of Pakistani nationality since they are absolutely required to submit a file to obtain a visa if they are on the territory of Thailand. This does not take into consideration the number of hours spent on Thai soil, nor the airport where the flight will land, let alone the chosen airline.

Thailand visas: which one to choose?

If you want to discover the country during your transit of more than 12 hours, you will need to request a single entry tourist visa. This option entitles you to a maximum stay of 60 days. If you want to come back again, it would be better to opt for multi-entry tourist visa. With this visa, you can return up to 3 times within 6 months with a maximum stay of 60 days allowed each time.

If you fall into the category over 50s, do not hesitate to take advantage of the specific visas offered by the Thai authorities. Indeed, the OA e-Visa entitles you to multiple entries with a length of stay of one year. While the OX e-Visa offers you exceptional validity of 5 years without entry limits.
