According to Thai embassies, a Thailand tourist visa allows you to stay in the country for tourism purposes for a maximum period of 60 days. Previously requiring a trip to the “mandatory” embassy, the process is now dematerialized despite the fact that it is the nearest embassy which takes care of issuing and signing the visa.

The tourist visa allows travelers to visit Thailand for tourist activities such as visits to cultural and historical sites, shopping, leisure, sports, relaxation and non-invasive medical treatments. It does not allow working or conducting business activities in Thailand.

There are tourist visas available single entry and to multiple entries for Thailand. The latter type of visa is convenient for travelers who want to explore Thailand's neighboring countries, such as Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar, and return to Thailand several times during their trip.

Single entry tourist visa (TR)

The TR tourist visa is an official document issued to allow a traveler to travel to Thailand for tourism purposes. This type of visa is valid for a period of three months from the date of submission of the visa application, and allows the traveler to stay in Thailand for a maximum period of 60 days from the date of entry into the country.

However, it is important to note that the tourist visa only allowsonly one entry into Thailand. This means that if the traveler leaves the country before the end of their stay, the visa will be canceled automatically, even if they only spend one day in Thailand. To return to Thailand, the traveler will need to obtain a new visa.

Furthermore, it is possible to extend the length of stay by an additional 30 days by going to one of the Immigration services and paying a fee of 1900 baht (51 €), without needing to leave the country. The extension request must be filed Before the end of the initial 60-day stay period.

It should also be noted that the visa application procedure can take up to a month or more if the file is incomplete. It is therefore recommended to allow sufficient time to apply for a tourist visa.

Documents for Thai tourist visa TR

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months on the date of departure from Thailand or residence permit If applicable
  • ID photo in color less than 6 months old
  • Visas from your previous trips over the last 12 months. If applicable, blank double page of the passport.
  • Proof of address : nominative energy or telephone bill
  • Round-trip airfare to Thailand, confirmed or reserved, with the names of the passengers. The return must be made within 90 days.
  • Proof of sufficient fundsequivalent to THB 20,000. Does not apply to French travellers.
  • Proof of accommodation in Thailand from 7 days minimum upon arrival, among :
    • personal hotel reservation
    • proof of ownership in Thailand
    • invitation letter signed by a Thai host with copy of their Thai identity card or if the host is non-Thai: copy of their passport + residence permit mentioning your entire stay and their address

Multi-entry tourist visa (TR-M)

The Thai TR-M multiple entry visa is a convenient option for tourists of all nationalities. With a duration of six month validity, this visa offers great flexibility to plan multiple trips to Thailand without having to worry about the visa procedure each time.

It is important to note that each stay in Thailand is limited to a period of sixty days per visit. This means travelers must exit the country and return to renew their stay if necessary.

It is also important to take into account the time required to obtain the Thai TR-M multiple entry visa. The visa application procedure can take up to a month, or even more if the file is incomplete. It is therefore advisable to allow sufficient time to obtain the visa before your planned departure to avoid any delays or cancellations of your trip.

The Royal Thai Embassy reserves the right to refuse the visa application for anyone who has stayed more than 90 days in the last six months preceding the date of submission of the visa application.
