Depending on the strength of the passport, it is possible to travel to certain countries without the need for an entry visa. This is the case for Thailand… and this is an excellent thing given the cultural, civilizational and tourist wealth of the Kingdom.

Which nationalities can travel to Thailand without a visa?

In total, these are 93 nationalities who can travel to Thailand without a visa for stays of up to 60 days.

These nationalities include Vietnam, Ukraine, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Singapore, San Marino, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Portugal, Poland, the Philippines, Peru, the Netherlands, Oman, Norway, New Zealand, Monaco, Mauritius, the Maldives, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Latvia, Kuwait, Japan, Italy, Israel, Iceland, Ireland, Indonesia, Hungary, Hong Kong, Greece, France, Finland, the United States, Estonia, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Denmark, South Korea, Canada, Brunei, Brazil, Belgium, Bahrain, Austria, Australia, Andorra, Germany and South Africa.

These nationalities will be asked to provide a return air ticket to ensure that their stay does not exceed 60 days.

How to apply for a visa for Thailand?

If you are not one of these nationalities, all you need to do is apply for a visa. The procedure can be carried out on the official website of the Thai authorities. Let's just note that it is only accessible in English.

What are the types of visa for traveling to Thailand?

The type of visa for Thailand varies depending on the nature and duration of your stay in the kingdom. Also, we can distinguish two main categories: long-stay visas and short-stay visas.

There are also two types of tourist visas: the TR Single and the TR Multiple. The first only allows you to benefit from a single entry, unlike the second. But in both cases, your stay should not go beyond 60 days.

What about stays of more than 60 days?

Beyond these 60 days, a different visa must be requested to enter Thailand. First of all, there is the O, B and ED. These are non-immigrant visas, intended for travelers who want to go to the kingdom to visit family, work, study or participate in humanitarian missions. They are valid for 90 days.

On the other hand, the country has developed two specific visas for travelers over 50: the OA which lasts 1 year and the OX which lasts 5 years (renewable).

What are the visa exemptions for Thailand?

It should be remembered that there are specific situations where a visa is not required. This is the case for travellers who intend to visit the Kingdom for a tourist stay of less than 60 days. By way of information, the 45-day exception expired on 31 March 2023 and returned to 30 days, then to 60 days in June 2024. It came into force on October 1, 2022. In addition, it concerns the nationalities that we have already mentioned at the beginning of our guide (France, England, South Africa, Turkey, Denmark, Hong Kong, Greece, etc.).

Of course, there are other special cases where you can do without a visa to travel to Thailand:

 • Diplomatic status : holders of diplomatic passports or other specific travel documents (for NGO missions for example) do not need the precious pass to travel to the kingdom. Besides, they can travel anywhere in the world.

 • Visa on arrival or e-visa : here, the visa exemption applies to travelers who will stay less than 15 days in Thailand. Exceptionally, this deadline was set at 30 days until March 31, 2023. The 15 days have therefore since been reinstated. Please also note that visas on arrival cannot be renewed.

 • For normal passports, Thailand has bilateral agreements with other countries to allow tourists to travel freely. Visa exemption for these nationalities depends on the length of stay: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, South Korea (90 days), Hong Kong, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Russia, Vietnam (45 days), Cambodia and Myanmar (14 days).
